A Typical Day in the Community

6:00 – Wake-up, bathe, dress

  • Do your laundry
  • Visit with your family

7:00 – Breakfast

  • Arrive on time ready for the day (water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, bandana, hat, toilet paper, journal, camera, etc.)

7:30 – Health check-in go around

  • How did you sleep?
  • How often are you peeing?
  • Are you having regular bowel movements? Diarrhea? Constipation?
  • Any discomforts or ailments?

7:45 – Work planning meeting

  • Set goals for the day
  • Define tasks/jobs
  • Identify who will do what
  • Teach/learn skills

8:00 – Work!

12:00 – Lunch and siesta

  • Journal writing after lunch
  • Visit with your family
  • Rest

2:00 – Resume work (dental group resumes at 1:00 & does journal writing in evening)

4:00 – Review the day

  • Did we meet our work goals?
  • What went well today?
  • What could have been better?
  • What could we do differently to make things go more smoothly tomorrow?

4:30 – Free time

  • Play softball, soccer, Frisbee, marbles, jump rope
  • Write in your journal
  • Bathe and change clothes
  • Do your laundry
  • Visit with your family
  • Go to the tienda and buy a coke/snack and hang out

6:00 – Dinner and evening activity

  • Arrive on time & bring your flashlight (wear long pants & long sleeves for mosquito prevention)

9:00 – Head for home & get ready to turn in for the night. Follow your family’s lead.
