Fish Ponds

Cacahuatal-weighing fish after catch

Where water is available, like in the riverside community of Cacahuatal, a community fish tank provides a source of fresh fish and income that the community uses for development projects.  After the community developed a plan for their fish tank through our CODECO program, IP delegates raised funds to help them build it.  Community representatives received training as part of a program through the Ministry of Agriculture so that they knew how to maintain and implement the project.  Now residents in this remote community have access to fresh fish and they work together to raise, catch and sell the fish — bringing in needed funds to support other community activities.
